Before I extended the bed on my Powermatic 3520A to 10' this is how I did long spindles.  This 89" by 5"  spindle has a 2" spacer block in the center so once I finished turning it the two pieces of molding were 1 1/2" high and 3" wide.  The 3 pieces were glued together 1" on the ends and one drop glue every 6" down the center.  The hose clamps were probably unnecessary but made me feel safer.  When I finished turning I cut off 1 1/2" off the ends and easily split the 3 pieces apart.  The surface was 9/16" beads and I calculated there were 2000 beads in the entire project.   My skill with the skew was a greatly improved when I finished.
