These are some half round column bases from white oak.  The two halves are glued up and cut 2" longer than the finished turning.  They are then glued together only on the last 1/2" .  After drying the blank is turned round between centers and a 1/4" by 2" tendon is turned on one end.  The rounded blank is mounted in a scroll chuck and finished.  When the piece is parted off you end up with two halves.  The traditional method is to put a piece of paper in the glue joint and then split the two halves apart.  The problem with this method is that it requires cleaning up the glue surface and if there is small detail work it will often break it at the edges.  Price was $15 a pair.
