Project of mahogany balusters. The white stuff is WoodEpox, www.abatron.com , a two part epoxy developed as a replacement for rotten wood. It has the strength of epoxy but turns, sands and carves like wood. Most turners use Bondo for filling voids or dings. The problem is that Bondo was designed to auto body repair on metal and doesn't flex with wood movement so it often breaks free of the wood after a few years. I often color WoodEpox black and fill voids in mesquite and other woods. It ends up looking like part of the original tree. WoodEpox is a great product for all types of wood repair. Because these were to be painted I could glue these up from the 24" pieces of mahogany that I have. This saved the customer about $100. I got a fantastic deal on 3000 BF of African and Honduras mahogany shorts when a local lumber wholesaler moved and I pass that savings on to my customers.
