88" mahogany cedar half column

3.5" by 91" blank for paint grade half columns.

The turned column  Note the 4 jaw chuck has been wrapped with a strip of tire inter tube as a safety precaution.  It would still hurt if I get a body part in the way but not near as bad without the ends of the jaws not being covered.  The hose clamps are added as extra safety to prevent the two halves coming apart.   The two halves were prepared and then glued together using a drop of glue every six inches to hold them together during turning and then they are split apart using a wedge.

The finished half  column sitting on the blank for a 10' by 5" Spanish cedar column.
