8" stain grade maple split columns 44" long with 3" rope and 2 starts to be used for fireplace.  To be correct a matching pair with left hand twist should have been done so a right hand twist would be on one side and a left hand twist would be on the other side.  Customer didn't want to pay for 2 sets when he only had a need for one.  Glued up using bird mouth joints and rough turned on the lathe then moved to my Legacy 1500 to mill the ropes.  After the ropes were finished I used a 3/8" up cut bit to cut the column in half leaving 1" on each end intact.  Then moved it to the lathe for sanding.  In the background is the exhaust fan for dust control and the door I use to sweep the shavings outside.  Price was $300 for the pair.
