Drilling holes

Here is the setup ready to start drilling a 3 5/8" hole 17" deep in the center of 8" square 10' cedar posts.  Started off with a 1" twist drill 9" long in the head stock to get the hole squared.  Using the pilot hole as a guide I drilled to 19" with a ship auger.  This gave me the  pilot hole for the forester bit to follow.  I used the come-alongs to move the timbers in and out.  The motor belt was loosened so that when the drill bound up the belt would slip.  The customer had drilled one before they called me.  It took 2 men all day to drill one hole.  They used a large 2 man drill with 2' handle extensions.  Several times the bit bound up and stopped.  Unfortunately the drill and men attached didn't.  Customer realized that there was a very high probability someone was going to get hurt.  I was the only one they could find that was willing to try.
