End posts for staircase from red oak.   Posts are 46" tall and 13" at widest point and glued up from 10/4 red oak.   

Secret compartment in top of post.  Not part of original design but seemed like a cool idea.  The compartment is 4" square and 4" deep.  Contractor wasn't sure how he is going to mount post to floor so I drilled 3/4" hole through the turned pieces while they were on the lathe.  The hole allows him the option to use all thread to connect to a steel plate bolted to the floor.
