3 3/4" Pecan/hickory table legs. In order to get 4" squares I would have to use 2 1/2" stock which would waste a lot of wood and raise price significantly. When wood is referred to as 2" or eight-quarter it means the thickness as the wood comes off the saw. By the time it is planed it is 1 7/8" to 1 3/4" thick. Also shown is the 3" roughing gouge from Oneway. With stock under 8" I leave it square and just crank up the lathe speed and start turning it to size. As you can see there is no tearout when I roughed this piece. It was running about 2000 RPM. It also works great on finish cuts.
The split column trim that go with the legs. The 2 long pairs join at the beads and give a 8" half round column. The joining ends are slightly concave so the will mate with no visible joint.
